Robotics Dance off!

I just had to say it again, because it was so amazing. A huge thank you to our guest teacher from St. Francis High School, Mr. Villeneuve ! Also a huge thank you to all of the parent volunteers who came out to learn all about robots with us. Thank you also to Mme Ginette for your ongoing collaboration with this!

Since there were eight robots and 22 students Mme Ginette's class was split into two groups. The first session was 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. and the second session was 12:30 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.

It was a fantastic day! Not only did we learn about robots and algorithms, but we also practiced having an entrepreneurial spirit, being engaged thinkers and ethical citizens.

Throughout the day the students practiced patience, understanding, sharing and collaboration! Patience, when the robots didn't do exactly what they wanted. Understanding, of fellow students who were at the controls. Sharing, of all the tasks the students were doing in a team setting. Then lastly collaboration of executing actions into frames in order to meet deadlines. In this case creating code for the robots to dance.

The dance off was amazing for both sessions! You can check them out below. It was great to see so much creativity, enthusiasm and teamwork.

In September we will have a Robotics Club during one of the recess times since all the students take the bus after school. For now we will using Lego Mindstorm Kits and working towards incorporating Computer Science into the curriculum down the road. Another special guest coming to our school is Robogals coming from the University of Calgary. Details to come in September. Thank you to all of the Grade 6 students and wish you all the best in grade 7!
